Getting Involved

Listed below are some of the many ways you can get involved at Faith.  If you would like someone to contact you for more information or to begin your involvement immediately, please click here and complete the volunteer form.

Adult Education: The Adult Education program offers a variety of learning experiences ranging from bible studies to movie discussions and beyond.  Classes typically last for two hours, once a week for six weeks and volunteers are needed to serve as leaders and co-leaders.

Altar Guild: The Altar Guild has the very important task of caring for the sacraments and altar area.  Altar Guild members are scheduled to serve on a rotating basis and the time commitment averages approximately two hours every 6 to 8 weeks.

Celebration Band: The Celebration Band provides music for the Celebration Service on Sundays at 10:30 a.m. and for special events.  The time commitment for the Celebration Band is a 30-45 minute rehearsal on Sunday mornings prior to the Celebration Service and then performing at that worship service.   Additional practices could be scheduled as needed.

Confirmation Classes: The Confirmation program at Faith is a three-year program for youth in grades 7 through 9.  Lesson plans are provided through an online service which gives our teachers the material that will be covered in class.  Serving as a Confirmation teacher requires a commitment of at least 2 hours per week plus class preparation time.  The students also complete at least two community service projects during the year.

Congregation Council: Faith’s governing body is the Congregation Council, composed of elected members of the congregation and the Pastor. Council members are elected at the Annual Congregational meeting in December and serve 2-year terms.  The Council meets once a month, most recently on the second Tuesday. The Council members also serve as liaisons to other committees and organizations in the church. You can contact the Congregation Council at council@faithinbrookfield.com

Facilities Team: The Facilities Team takes care of the church building and grounds. They coordinate help from our congregation and outside contractors to keep our facilities clean, safe, and functional.

Finance Team: Primarily responsible for all banking transactions, auditing of contributions, maintenance of member contribution records, preparation of annual proposed budget and the handling of insurance matters and tax issues.

Handbell & Handchime Choir: The Handbell & Handchime Choir creates an opportunity for people of all ages to share in providing music for our congregation. The skills needed to belong include being able to count to 4, and knowing your right hand from your left!  Otherwise, no musical knowledge or skill is necessary.  The group practices as necessary on Sunday mornings following the Celebration Service.  To hear the handbells in action, click the arrow below:

Hospitality Committee: The Hospitality Committee is responsible for training and scheduling volunteers to greet members and guests as they arrive for worship services.  They also provide refreshments and other services for Faith’s many mission and outreach events.  They also host events designed to foster fellowship among Faith’s diverse membership.

Love Meals: There was a time when people naturally reached out to those in times of joy and sorrow with food. While things have changed, Faith offers a simple, but unique program called Love Meals.  Sometimes events occur that could make it difficult to prepare a home-cooked meal for your family. When circumstances such as these arise, Faith can provide you with a Love Meal.  Meals can be made or purchased and dietary needs will be provided to volunteers.  If you find yourself in need of a Love Meal or would be interested in providing a meal for someone else, please contact us at lovemeals@faithinbrookfield.com or call the church office at (708)485-0096.

Memorial Committee: From time to time, Faith Lutheran Church receives a donation made in memory of someone who is no longer with us or as a special gift to honor someone or some occasion. Envelopes used to submit these donations are provided in the pews.
Picture
Mission Team: The job of the Mission Team is to create programs to serve the people of our community and beyond. They arrange promotional events to make the community aware of Faith and the many programs the church supports.  They also keep our members, friends and community up-to-date on our worship service and other activities by arranging publicity and advertising, as well as assuring that Faith’s newsletters and other publications are informed.

Praying Together: There is currently a group of Faith members who gather together each month to pray about the various joys and concerns that have been submitted by the congregation on our prayer slips.  If you are interested in praying with the group, they meet on the first Thursday of each month at 6:30 pm at Faith.  If you have a petition that you would like this group to include in their monthly prayers, you can submit it by completing a prayer slip and placing it in the offering basket at worship or by clicking here to visit Sacred Space our online prayer ministry.

Stephen Ministry: Stephen Ministers are trained, caring, lay counselors who provide one-on-one support to people in our community.  There is an initial 40-hour training program which is offered once each year. After training, Stephen Ministers are commissioned for a 2-year commitment and meet 1-2 hours per week with their care receiver as well as attending a monthly 1-2 hour supervisory meeting.
Picture
Sunday School: Sunday School requires a commitment of nine months (with no classes during school vacations) to cover the school year.  Volunteers are needed to serve as teachers, co-teachers, substitutes and assistants.
